【7】Ryo Fukui Trio - Ryo Fukui Trio at the Slowboat 2004 [Pure Vinyl](180g 2LP)

“I want to hear more of Ryo Fukui’s playing.” The dream of listeners around the world has become reality here. A stunning live performance brimming with Fukui’s mature charm, walking together with Slowboat.

This is exactly what you would call unexpected joy: the arrival of a “new” Ryo Fukui release. Recorded on June 26, 2004, this is a live document commemorating the 9th anniversary of the jazz live house Slowboat, which Fukui founded and made his base. The members are a trio: Fukui, Kosuke Sakai (bass), and Yoshito Eto (drums). Fukui was 56 at the time. The performance is powerful and large in scale, yet also delicate and sharp. In terms of the balance of spirit, stamina, and technique, this was the moment he was truly entering his prime. He spins his beloved Phineas Newborn Jr. and Tommy Flanagan with weight and luster, and plays the Wayne Shorter he once idolized with thrilling intensity. A breathtaking performance that captures Fukui at his peak.
