A liminal space for music
This substack will be a place for longer thoughts and musings than can easily fit in a social media post.
LIMINAL Music is a creative music agency I founded in 2022 after working in the music industry, at a record label and with bands, and then 15 years leading the music supervision and music licensing for Nike in Portland, OR. Previously I was part of the music team behind HBO’s “Six Feet Under” and show like “Boomtown” and “Las Vegas” as well as animated and indie films. One part of our “house” is a creative consultancy that focuses on finding the best music for a project, be that commercial, tv show or film. For music supervision, curation and record collecting are a bit part of the creative dive to assemble the best sound track possible.
Another part of our “house” is record shop focusing on great music from Japan. We specialize in J-Jazz, City Pop, Electronic/Ambient, Soundtracks and cool pressings of Western albums that were released in Japan. We have relationships with record stores, labels and distributors in Tokyo and work with them every week to stock the best new and used releases. Often, we are the first US shop to stock many of these albums.
