Hiroshi Yoshimura's "Flora" Our exclusive "Rose City" vinyl variant will raise money for relief and recovery efforts in Los Angeles

This post goes great with music from Flora 1987 by Hiroshi Yoshimura

During the pandemic shutdown of 2020, the Hiroshi Yoshimura album “9 Postcards” saved my life. The beautiful, synth ambient record helped me calm down and breathe. It helped create the space where I could lock into a groove deep as a river and moving at a deliberate and timeless tempo. I would go to bed and listen to Yoshimura’s comforting sounds and shut out the abject fear and anxiety that defined that time.

When I had the chance, I let Temporal Drift and their partner Light in the Attic know that I would jump at the chance to ever help release a variant of one of Yoshimura’s records. I shared my dream of releasing “Rose City” variants of albums to help raise money for social support charities in Portland, Oregon.

And then, as if I had manifested it into being, came the opportunity that led to this post. Would I want to put out an exclusive version of Yoshimura’s 1987 album “Flora ” which had only been released on a hard-to-find CD. After contemplation, analysis budgeting and talks with my family, it seemed as good a time as any to release our first color variant through LIMINAL Music. I moved to Tokyo in the middle of high school in 1987 when, coincidentally, these songs were recorded. So, there isn’t a more meaningful artist for the first Rose City variant than Hiroshi Yoshimura.

So, announcing the #1 Rose City variant in limited edition “Clover” green

The “Rose City” version of “Fora ” is the first in a series of vinyl variants produced by LIMINAL Music. These limited edition versions will be curated releases to raise funds for charitable causes in Portland, Oregon. Typically, 100% of all proceeds from the “Rose City” variants will support our neighbors addressing food insecurity and houselessness and advancing music education.

Due to recent events in LA, where friends and family have evacuated and lost their homes, we want to extend a helping hand from the Rose City to the City of Roses. 100% of our “Fora 1987” proceeds will be donated to relief and recovery efforts related to the January fires in Los Angeles.

Flora (the Rose City variant) is a hand numbered, limited edition. Each copy comes with a certificate of authenticity and an opportunity to make additional donations to Los Angeles recovery efforts, which will be matched by contributions from LIMINAL Music.

Our hope is to use these limited edition albums to help build community and support our neighbors working to make tomorrow better.

Please consider supporting these efforts by picking up our first Rose City variant.

PRESS RELEASE

Following their 2024 reissue of Hiroshi Yoshimura’s classic album, Surround, Temporal Drift proudly presents the first-ever reissue of FLORA, Yoshimura’s underappreciated ambient classic.

FLORA was originally recorded and completed in 1987, and remained unreleased until 2006, nearly three years after Yoshimura’s passing in 2003. The album is chronologically and stylistically a follow-up to his acclaimed 1986 works GREEN and SURROUND, wherein Yoshimura continues to play with the ambience of sound and the sound of ambience, underscoring his mastery in the field of environmental music. Yoshimura’s other recorded works include Music For Nine Post Cards (1982), originally produced to be played back inside a museum space, and Pier & Loft (1983), commissioned as accompaniment to a contemporary fashion show.
